Their paths first crossed on the set of the filmThe One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Bandwhen Goldie Hawn was 22 years old and Kurt Russell was a youthful 17. Russell’s mother, after observing a group of talented women auditioning, confidently predicted that Hawn would secure the role.
Recalling their initial meeting, Russell, now 71, shared in a recent interview with Variety,
“My mom leaned into me and said, ‘You see that blonde with a funny haircut? She’s gonna get the job.’ And sure enough, she did. I thought she was awfully attractive. You couldn’t miss her. She just had this energy about her.”
In a 2012 interview with People, Hawn, now 77, reminisced about their encounter on set, noting that Russell was “adorable, but he was much too young.”

Seventeen years later, they found themselves reunited while filmingSwing Shiftin 1983, shortly after Hawn’s separation from her former husband, Bill Hudson, with whom she shares children Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson.
“I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him,”Hawn shared with People. “But we both said we would never go out with another actor, so it just shows you never can tell.”
Their connection grew stronger, and they began dating soon after. In 1986, they welcomed their son, Wyatt, into the world.
Throughout their journey, starring in movies together such asOverboardand raising their children, Hawn and Russell have consistently demonstrated unwavering support and love for each other. Yet, they have remained steadfast in their decision not to formalize their relationship through marriage.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn Teased About Tying The Knot
During the 1989 Oscars, while presenting the award for Best Directing, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell decided to add a humorous twist to their presentation. They came up with a playful bit because they weren’t fond of the scripted lines given to them.
Russell revealed,
“We’re taking a shower together, getting ready to go, and we looked at each other and said, ‘There’s gonna be a lot of people watching, so let’s get this right.’ And we started improvising for about 20 minutes, not telling anyone about going off-script.”
Following their impromptu banter, many people mistakenly believed that their exchange was a genuine conversation. However, Russell confirmed in a recent interview with Variety, after 30 years, that it was entirely made up.
“At that time, we constantly got asked, ‘When are you going to get married? Why aren’t you married?’ And we were like, ‘Why does anybody care about that?’ We’d asked our kids if they cared about it. They didn’t. We didn’t.”

Despite their decision not to marry, their relationship remains strong. In a June 2022Instagram post, Hawn shared a photo of them sharing a kiss, showcasing their enduring love.
Speaking to Variety, Hawn expressed her admiration for Russell, describing him as extraordinarily brilliant and creative and collaborative.
