Another thing that the project has been praised for is completely reinventing Superman visually. The suit, weapons, and Krypton, look alien-like. Apart from the aesthetics, star Henry Cavill was lauded for putting in the effort to bulk up and give Superman the god-like physique he deserved. However, in doing so, he ripped apart his suit.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes to promoteMan of Steel,Henry Cavillwas asked if the story about his suit bursting at the seams because of how much muscle mass he had gained was true. The actor replied that the tale was true and explained what had happened. He said:

“There was a suit that I had fitted all the way through the movie, and then I wore the suit at the end of the movie, and it split seams at the trousers.”

The interviewer joked that he had basically hulked out. Even the costume designer of the film, Michael Wilkinson, had once called Cavill a human specimen because of his chiseled body. In an interview, he calledThe Witcherstar a dream actor to work with because of his patience. The designer said:

“Henry has to be the most patient, calm, and professional man on the planet. He never complained, even after fittings that lasted four and a half hours, or working in 100-degree heat in the cornfields of Illinois.”

However, wearing a skin-tight suit comes with its own set of problems, like having to always be on bladder control duty.

Henry Cavill Complained About Not Having Much Water To Drink While In The Suit

During an interview with the New York Post, Henry Cavill talked about the perils of wearing a skin-tight superhero costume. He explained that it becomes difficult to go to the bathroom. So during shooting, he had to control his water intake. TheMission Impossiblestar said:

“It’s quite a tight suit. Going to the lavatory wasn’t the easiest thing. It would take some time to get in and out, (so) I’d have to wait. (While filming) in Chicago, I could drink as much as I wanted because I’d sweat and it would be fine. But (in) Vancouver (British Columbia), where it was cold I got one bottle of water every half-day — brutal.”

The actor has always proclaimed his love for Superman, but sadly, the suit or the cape isn’t his anymore. James Gunn is all set to reboot the DCU withSuperman: Legacy,and allegedly, he has begun screen-testing actors for the role as well. It now remains to be seen who bags the coveted role of the Last Son of Krypton.

Man of Steelis streaming on HBO Max, and Superman: Legacywill be released on August 14, 2025.
