The MCU had never thrown much light on the multiverses until the premiere of “Loki”. The latest Marvel series on Disney+ finally enlightened us about the origin and the nature of the timeline and the multiverse. Just like it did with the Infinity Saga, the franchise is now building up the upcoming battle of Phase 4 and 5, which is anticipated to be bigger than Endgame.
After “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”, the studio has continued to have us on the edge of our seats with “Loki”. The series is travelling beyond the familiar territory to touch upon the obscure topics of the timeline. It started with Loki escaping the Battle of New York during the Avengers’ time heist, only for the Time Variance Authority to catch him for disrupting the “sacred timeline”. Seeing potential in him, Agent Mobius of TVA appoints Loki’s help to catch a bigger threat, his variant, who is determined to wreak havoc over the timeline. But by the end of episode 2, the so-called “variant” of Loki, assumed to be Lady Loki, manages to unleash the Multiverse Madness.
Episode 1 featured TVA’s mascot Miss Minutes telling us about the role of TVA in preventing the “madness” of the multiverse. Loki may not realize the consequence, but the audience knows how it could directly lead to “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness”, rising more stakes than it did during the Endgame.
The Multiverse
MCU fans knew about the existence of the multiverse but not about its complicated nature in depth. It not only involves the time branches shown in “Avengers: Endgame” but also a myriad of dimensions and realms, such as the Quantum Realm. The upcoming slate of the franchise will explore these multiverses with Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where other versions of Peter Parkers are expected to appear.
How It Could Lead To A War
Miss Minutes took us back to the time when multiple timelines existed which eventually led to a multiverse war. This chaos compelled the Time Keepers to intervene and reset the timeline into one. So, if a variant veers off the timeline, it leads to a “Nexus Event” and keeps adding more branches. Loki’s variant has not only begun the “madness” but her actions could lead to a war of multiverses, something more catastrophic than the Infinity War.
So, WandaVision, Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, andDoctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madnesscould be setting up the foundation for the ultimate war in Avengers 5. With most of the original Avengers gone, various teams of new heroes, like the New Avengers, Young Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, A-Force and Eternals could emerge and join forces this time.
