Path of Exile 2 has received an initial release on July 23, 2025. The full-release schedule is still TBA, but the developers have confirmed that we will be getting 6 out of the 12 planned classes in the Early Access itself. Grinding Gear Games has already decided which ones we will see in the Early Access.

Playing the Early Access can cost you a little if you haven’t spent enough in the previous game. That is a discussion thatwe have already covered. For now, let’s keep our focus narrowed down to the 6 classes we will be receiving next week on all available platforms.

Introducing 12 classes is a big leap from the 7 classes that the predecessor had. Moreover, there will also be 2 Ascension classes for each Archetype besides the basic one. This means there will be a total of 36 classes in the game, keeping the gameplay as varied as ever.

For now, we will take a look at the 18 classes and sub-classes that fans will have access to during the Early Access period. The developers have spoken against the “pay-to-win” culture in some games. This means that these classes will be available to everybody in the free-to-play game.

Classes and Ascensions in Path of Exile 2 Early Access That You Can Choose From

1. The Warrior

This class is exactly how it sounds: a classic brute in every RPG. Players who wish to unload big and chunky attacks on their enemies should go for this class. This hero also dons large amounts of armor that can shrug off attacks from smaller enemies pretty easily. Apart from this basic build, there are two Ascendancy sub-classes for him.

2. The Sorceress

This is a magic archetype that primarily uses elements to bring enemies to their knees. As a Sorceress, you should be able to use a variety of elements at your disposal to wreak havoc on everybody. Unlike the Warrior, it is more of a ranged class and probably wouldn’t excel in close combat situations.

3. The Ranger

The Ranger is another ranged class in the game. But this time around, you won’t be wielding magic but instead dealing physical damage to your foes. Unlike the Sorceress, this class is also pretty agile, vaulting away whenever needed.

4. The Monk

This Archetype is focused on melee fighting and agility. You can dash in and out of combat quickly and can chain your attacks based on momentum.

5. The Mercenary

This class is not what you may be thinking. The developers are sticking to the medieval theme, not bringing in guns at all. However, the Mercenary class will still have access to a crossbow, which makes it different from the Ranger. You can load your crossbow with different ammo types and will have combo abilities.

6. The Witch

She may sound similar to the Sorceress, but a Witch’s powers are derived from darkness instead of elements. You can spawn hordes of the undead to aid you in battles and also use Chaos magic against enemies.
