Angelina Jolie Finds Most People In Hollywood Average
With over three decades in the industry, as well as being exposed to it during her childhood as she was the daughter ofMission Impossibleactor Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie has seen it all. The actor-director has been public about her controversial life, which was reportedly filled with drugs, rehabilitation, an estranged father, and a highly publicized marriage and divorce.
During a director’s round table interview hosted byThe Hollywood Reporter, Angelina Jolie mentioned that she was rarely surprised by anyone in the industry when asked who was the most surprising personality she had come across. She was joined by directors Guillermo Del Toro, Greta Gerwig, Patty Jenkins, Dennis Villeneuve, and Joe Wright.

Reporter Stephen Galloway asked her who among her heroes had surprised her or were different than she expected, to which she answered,
“Maybe because I grew up in this business a little bit with my father, I early on realized how average everybody is in this business. I grew up thinking there’s nothing unbelievably special or unbelievably different about these people except that sometimes they think they are unbelievably special. So, I think it’s just whether you’re pleasantly surprised that they are just great people.”
The actress also mentioned three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis and complimented him on how he was a great person. She spoke about how she just sees artists as people and even if there were complex artists, their work was still interesting. She said,
“I don’t know if it’s a coincidence that some people who come across a certain way or make films with a lot of humanity are people with a lot of humanity. Then there are really complex artists that may be complex people but their work is really interesting. I think I just kind of see it all kind of for what it is. I’m happy to be able to be a part of it but…I just see everybody at this table as like moms, dads, people, women, [and] men.”
Jolie was on the table that year due to her directorialFirst They Killed My Father, which was a Cambodian-American film focusing on the Khmer Rouge period.
