In an episode ofThe Playlistpodcast,The Mummydirector Alex Kurtzman declared that the movie was the biggest failure of his life and continued to claim that this failure has taught him many things and even helped him to be a better director. WithTom CruiseleadingThe Mummy,Universal had formed plans to make the franchise one of the best by bringing in under the Dark Universe banner. But it wasn’t long before the movie totally flopped with critical negative reviews and mediocre box office collections which forced the higher-ups to scrap any plans for the future of the franchise.
