Blue Beetleending explained

After Jaime is “chosen” by the scarab and begins to receive its powers, he is hunted by the villainous CEO Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) and her henchman Carapax (Trujillo). After a few encounters, their tension culminates in a standoff at the Reyes home, where Jaime is captured by Kord and Carapax, the family home burns down, and Reyes patriarch Alberto (Alcázar) dies of a heart attack.

At Kord’s compound, it is revealed that Kord’s evil plan is to steal the scarab’s code from Jaime so that she can use it to enhance Carapax and create an army of super-soldiers like him. While Kord is extracting the code from Jaime’s body, Jaime syncs with the scarab’s entity, Khaji-Da, allowing him to break free of his constraints. Unfortunately, it is too late, as Carapax has already reached his full power.

As the scarab reboots, Jaime is left powerless to fight the army of enhanced soldiers that comes to fight him. However, the Reyes family comes to the rescue using the various gadgets from Jenny’s (Bruna Marquezine) lost father, Ted Kord’s hideout, as he was the first Blue Beetle.

Meanwhile, Kord attempts to escape with the code to the scarab, but her niece, Jenny, is there to thwart her plan. With the bubble gum prototype she found in her father’s lair she crashes the helicopter, retrieving and destroying the code to the scarab.

Jaime’s powers replenish themself just in time for him to fight the now-full-power Carapax. After an intense scuffle, Jaime eventually reigns victorious and attempts to kill Carapax to avenge his father. However, Khaji-Da resists, showing Jaime that Carapax was manipulated by Kord and his family murdered during the war, causing Jaime to spare Carapax’s life.

Carapax decides to sacrifice himself and take Kord down with him, causing an explosion that destroys all of the new weaponized scarabs, as well as killing both of them. Jaime manages to narrowly escape with the help of Jenny and his family.

Later, it is revealed that Jenny is taking over as the CEO of Kord, pivoting away from her aunt’s policy of manufacturing weapons to make technology that will genuinely help people. After Alberto’s funeral, the entire neighborhood gathers at the family home to celebrate his life, and Jenny announces that she will be paying to rebuild the Reyes’ home. Jenny and Jaime share a kiss before flying off to her father’s lair.

WillBlue Beetleplay a role in the future of the DCEU or DCU?

While there are some mentions of other superheroes in the DC Extended Universe — such as Flash and Batman —Blue Beetleis a relatively self-contained story. The mid-credits scene sets up a potential sequel, but does not tie it in with any other heroes. Thus, it is left open as to whether or not Blue Beetle will appear in any future films.
