While aboard the Douglas AD Bomber, en route to his duty station, an unsettling turn of events unfolded as the aircraft approached Punta Reyes, California. The plane found itself running on empty, leaving no possibility of reaching the safety of inland California before a crash landing became inevitable. Subsequently, the plane plummeted into the ocean. Remarkably, both the pilot and Clint Eastwood managed to escape, clinging to a life raft. He also helped the two men swim for two miles to reach a shore.
