2012 was a year of unadulterated bliss for Marvel fans; Iron Man was still alive and clad in his air of perpetual sarcasm, Black Widow hadn’t yet gone into retirement, Hawkeye was very much in the game, and the Avengers’ biggest concern was to put down Thor’s notoriously villainous brother and his army of reptilian warriors. If only there was a way to open up a portal to the good old days the way Loki did to unleash the Chitauri.

Well, the best we can do is a trip down memory lane, the sentimentality of which is guaranteed to split your heart into two (in the best way possible).

A Nostalgic Visit to the First Day on Set ofThe Avengers
Joss Whedon’sThe Avengerswas an instant, electrifying hit that would go down as perhaps one of the most memorable Marvel movies ever. Not to mention, it became the highest-grossing film of that year, thanks to the whopping sum of over $1.5 billion that it accrued at the box office. And as it turns out, the ensemble star cast was having just as much of a gala time behind the cameras as the audience was in front of the big screens.
WhenScarlett JohanssonandJeremy Rennersat down for a tête-à-tête with Collider ahead of the movie premiere, the two stars recounted the peculiar yet oddly warm atmosphere that pervaded the set on their very first day of shooting; it was as if a collective, dulcet air of familiarity had taken charge of the room or the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, to be more precise. Or as ScarJo put it oh so aptly, it was“an out-of-body experience.”

“[It’s] like a dress-up but to the extreme,”the 38-year-old actress reminisced.“[We’d] embarrass the sh*t out of each other.”And Renner agreed with her about the“surreality”of it all, claiming,“I don’t even know what I was doing there, but I was there.”Well, seeing Thor juggle a latté and his mighty hammer is bound to have that dream-like effect that makes you question reality.

Where Are the Avengers Now?
From Captain America to Hawkeye, a number of key players from the MCU bid farewell to the beloved superhero franchise with most of the exits filtering in after 2019’sAvengers: Endgame. AfterThor: Love and Thunder, which was the fourth installment in theThorseries, the Australian actor doesn’t seem to be envisioning a future in the MCU anymore. And it’s the same with ScarJo, who made it abundantly clear that she has no intention of returning as the femme fatale Natasha Romanoff after being a part of the saga for so many years.
As for Renner, 52, though chances of a second season ofHawkeyeremain obscure, the actor did clarify that he’d be willing to reprise his role as Clint Barton should the Marvel bosses reach out to him in the future.
