Matthew Vaughn Wants To RebootStar WarsFranchise

Matthew Vaughnhad previously rebooted a franchise withX-Men: First Class. Since the story was set several years before the originalX-Menfilms, people accepted the idea of a reboot with open arms. The positive response to that film even allowed both older and younger versions of the characters to join forces inX-Men: Days of Future Past.

However, it might not be the same for Vaughn withStar Wars, asSolo: A Star Wars Storyfailed to leave a mark at the box office. The film tried introducing new actors to play familiar characters. Matthew Vaughn asserted that the response to a reboot of theStar Warsfranchise might not be very encouraging, but he seems ready for the challenge.

He suggested that making a film for a new audience could revitalize the series, and even longtime fans would appreciate the fresh take if the film is executed nicely.

Vaughn said (viaComicBook):

“Everyone’s going to go batsh-t crazy,`but let’s bring it on. Because if you want a new generation, make the movie for them. The old generation can, if you make it well enough that they go, ‘Okay, I’m enjoying it.'”

Since several announcedStar Warsfilms are in the works, it is difficult to determine which particular film will hit the silver screens next.

Mathew Vaughn Also Had a Superman Film In The Works

During an appearance on theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar shed light on their concept for a Superman trilogy. Vaughn gave insights on the innovative vision they had for the film, sharing that they wanted to ditch the traditional Superman storyline. He revealed, “Our big idea was that Krypton doesn’t blow up.“

Vaughn said (viaYouTube):

“Mark and I sat down and plotted out a three-film trilogy, pitched it to Warner Bros. before ‘Man of Steel’… we pitched how to do a trilogy of Superman movies, and Warners said they weren’t interested. That’s as far as it went. I think Donner nailed it. ‘Wonder Woman’ worked very well because it was basically a Donner/Superman film but reimagined as Wonder Woman. I would’ve done a modern version of Donner. Our big idea was that Krypton doesn’t blow up. It does eventually. The dad was right, but he got his timing wrong. When Superman is grown up, suddenly there’s a mass exodus, and all hell breaks loose. That was our main idea.”

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel took a different approach by deviating from the playful nature of the comics. The film opted for a darker and more serious tone.
