A Good PersonDoes not Light up the Box Office
Despite ending their romantic relationship,Zack BraffandFlorence Pughhave put aside their past to work professionally inA Good Personwhich is written and directed by Braff. The film follows the life of a young and bright woman with a seemingly perfect life that crumbles due to an unimaginable tragedy leading to opioid addiction and unresolved grief. The film which was written by Braff during the pandemic has opened to mediocre responses in theaters, leaving critics and audiences unimpressed. To quote Peter Bradshaw ofThe Guardian,
“In his dual capacity as writer and director, Zach Braff here puts us through an ordeal of excruciating contrived nonsense: a masturbatory Calvary of ersatz empathy and emotional wellness”.

To add salt to the wound, the film debuted with only a 50 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes which is one of the first barometers that audiences look at to gauge the success of a film. The lukewarm responses over the opening weekend are a worrying sign for Florence Pugh as well. The talented actor was at the center of controversy with Olivia Wilde duringDon’t Worry Darlingwhen she accused Wilde who was the director of the film, of reducing her role to only s*x scenes. After a tumultuous time, Pugh would have hoped to erase these memories with a positive response toA Good Personwhich unfortunately did not happen.
