Do we love them? No. Do we want people to stop talking about it because it is getting way too old now? Yes. These movies are at the pinnacle of overrated-ness.
Bridget Jones’ Diary
The movie was released way back in April 2001. It still enjoys a sizeable fan following even after two decades. Honestly we never understood the appeal for the Bridget Jones movies. People rave in lengths about how the protagonist brings out the human element in the story. Frankly there are movies that do it way better than this 2001 ‘classic’.
Resident Evil
TheResident Evilseries began in the world of video games. A movie being adapted from a video game is bound to be rife with many artistic sacrifices. The first movie was good. We will give them that. But as more and more Resident Evil movies came, we slowly and steadily realized it was turning into an abomination refusing to die, just like the ones Milla Jovovich’s Alice fights in the movies.
David Fincher’s Gone Girl is called a twisted and demented masterpiece. Is it though? The movie is slow at times and leaves way too much to the user’s imagination. Rosamund Pike and the brilliant narration are the only highlights of the movie. If you look closely, the movie is riddled with way too many plot holes that would have discredited Amy’s grand plan.
Believe it or not, Rocky IV is called the greatest terrible movie ever made in human history. It is so ham-fisted and cheesy it could be the stuffing inside a sandwich. The movie takes obvious pitfalls for the sake of storytelling. It’s only saving grace is the iconic boxing sequence between Stallone’s Rocky Balboa and Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago.
WhenJames Cameronpromised us a 3D movie unlike any other, we were hooked and ready for Avatar. And then the movie came. Avatar gave us an unprecedented 3D experience unlike any other, starting a Hollywood revolution. But it was lacking in many other aspects like story and character depth. In his quest for perfecting the 3D experience, Cameron ended up forgetting the basic traits of film-making. Avatar is one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
Dream Girls
The movie has heavyweights likeBeyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx in major roles. Dream Girls is called one of the greatest movies about Black Women. We would disagree. While the 2004 movie does have its merits, it comes nowhere near the greatness of movies like Hidden Figures and The Help.
We may all be of different countries, races, religions, and ethnicities. But the one thing that unites us all is our collective hatred for the Twilight series. Can we do anything about the millions and billions of fans that keep ranting about it like it is the Holy Bible of vampire fiction? We wish. We really do.
The Notebook
This movies brings tears to many people’s eyes. For us, it does the same but for all the wrong reasons. There are a million things that are wrong with The Notebook. It banks on sheer emotional aftershocks to keep the audience engaged. The characters, believe it or note, are incredibly flawed and would be hated in real life. Just take Noah for example. He is one obsessive who would even resort to bullying and deceiving to come close to Allie’s life.
The English Patient
There is a general pattern we see in the film making industry. Audiences tend to hate movies that are Oscar-worthy.The English Patientis one of the phenomenon’s burning example. Many call the movie lackluster and exceedingly unengaging. How in holy hell did it get to the Oscars?
Transformers
Just like Resident Evil, theTransformersseries suffers from a similar uncontrollable cancerous growth syndrome. It does not know when to stop multiplying. In the end, what could have been Michael Bay’s greatest contribution to cinema ended up becoming his Frankenstein’s Monster. all for the sake of milking a dead cow.
Captain Marvel
If you likedCaptain Marveland would agree to watch it a second time, we would applaud you for your bravery. Marvel movies tend to be so rewatchable in general. Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was one of those rare instances where he ended up loathing Marvel studios for making it. No wonder the movie gets so much hatred. It’s well-placed and well deserved hostility if you ask us. Why do people still rave about Captain Marvel, we will never know!!
Alvin & The Chipmunks
The first movie received so many bad reviews that detailed the movie’s crass sense of humor. The characters were cringe and the toilet jokes were too much. The movie had a hard time rounding up its target audience. It was all over the place. The movie spawned multiple sequels, earning more than half a billion dollars in Box Office earnings alone. People would want anything if it has chipmunks in it we guess.
