The return of Sam Raimi to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the highly anticipatedDoctor Strange: Multiverse of Madnesscaused fans to clamor for him to take on another beloved superhero: Spider-Man. Raimi was the mastermind behind the original Tobey Maguire-led trilogy from 2002 to 2007, which many consider to be the golden era of Spider-Man.

Tobey Maguire Could Break Sam Raimi’s Neck
In an interview with Los Angeles Times,Sam Raimiwas asked about his feelings on Holland’s performance as the web-slinger and the possibility of him directingSpider-Man 4. The director calledNo Way Home“a complete audience thrill ride”and expressed his love for the character of Spider-Man and Holland’s portrayal.
“I loved No Way Home. I thought it was a complete audience thrill ride. The crowd I was with were ooh-ing and ahh-ing, and it had a great heart to it. It was great seeing my old friends again. I love Spider-Man. And I love Tom Holland in the role.”

However, he did admit that he would need to reunite with Tobey Maguire before directing another Spider-Man movie, stating Tobey would “breakmy neck”if he“made a Spider-Man movie.”:
“[But] if I made a Spider-Man movie, it would probably have to be with Tobey or he’d break my neck.”
Raimi also confirmed that there are no plans for him to direct a fourthSpider-Manmovie with Maguire but that he hasn’t pursued it due to the MCU’s current success with the franchise.

Sam Raimi’s Future In The MCU
Fans have been eager for Raimi and Maguire to reunite for a fourth movie, and Raimi’s recent comments have only added fuel to the fire. For the time being, Tom Holland’sSpider-Man 4is the only confirmed Spidey-centric movie in development for Sony.
While the production schedule and release timeframe are unknown, the future of Spider-Man and Raimi’s involvement with the franchise remains a mystery. Despite all this, Raimi seems happy with the current path of the hero, as well as with his work in the MCU withDoctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.
