Following Henry Cavill’s departure from James Gunn’s newly created DCU, the director clarified the Superman debate in a statement. Gunn stated thatThe Witcheractor was never fired from the DCU but was simply“not hired”for further projects involving Superman or else.

Following the hurling of swear words aimed at DC Studios for removing Henry Cavill, Gunn retorted back with his own statements. Amidst the controversial statements, James Gunn clarified that theEnola Holmesactor was never fired from DC but was simply never hired.

With bold statements, James Gunn, in his statement to Gizmodo stated that there was never a deal about any other Superman movie following the cameo inBlack Adam.He further berated the people for making assumptions based purely on a cameo thatHenry Cavillagreed to do.

“It’s important to say that Henry Cavill was not fired. Henry was just not hired to be Superman in ‘Superman [:Legacy].’ There was never a deal there for another movie. We didn’t’ fire Henry. Henry was never cast. He was in a cameo, and that was the end of his story.A lot of people made assumptions which weren’t true. But for me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers want to cast.”

But it isn’t just the role of Superman that seems to be affected by the decision. There are also alleged reports of Ben Affleck leaving the role of Batman from the DCU spread throughout the Internet as neither the actor nor Gunn seem to talk about any future projects regarding Affleck.
