House of the Dragon Season 2 Premiere May Be Titled ‘A Son for a Son’

The inaugural episode of the second season ofHouse of the Dragonhas been titledA Son for a Son,drawing its name from a letter sent by Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) to Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) in the novel Fire and Blood, addressing the loss of her son, Lucerys Velaryon.

In the book, after Lucerys’ death, Daemon Targaryen, Queen Rhaenyra’s uncle and husband, contacts his connections in King’s Landing, where her half-brother King Aegon II reigns. Daemon is responsible for the establishment of the Gold Cloaks, the police force that maintains law and order and he maintains ties within it. He also has a relationship with Mysaria, an ex-prostitute turned influential information broker, who has spies inside the Red Keep.

In the book, Daemon is at Harrenhal when he sends Rhaenyra a letter vowing vengeance: “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged.” He also enlists Mysaria’s help in hiring two individuals, Blood and Cheese. Blood is a former City Watch member-turned-cutthroat, while Cheese is a rat catcher familiar with its hidden passages. This led to the notorious duo Blood and Cheese infiltrating the Red Keep with the mission of assassinating one of Aegon’s sons, which they successfully accomplished.

While Sam C. Wilson and Mark Stobbart have been rumored to play Blood and Cheese in Season 2, it remains uncertain if their storyline will precisely mirrorGeorge R.R. Martin’sFire and Blood. The series has generally stayed faithful to the source material with some deviations, so it remains to be seen what HBO will opt to do in this particular narrative arc.

What Might Be Shown In House of the Dragon Season 2?

It’s expected that the TV series will need to make some adjustments to the story. For instance, in the show, Daemon wasn’t there in Harrenhal when Lucerys met his fate; he was at Dragonstone at the end of Season 1. It seems the plan for him is to secretly enter King’s Landing via a fishing boat and connect with his contacts in the underworld. Afterward, he might proceed to Harrenhal.

Furthermore, as far as we can discern, Maelor Targaryen hasn’t appeared yet on the show, or at least, viewers haven’t had any sightings of him. However, we have caught glimpses of the twins Jaehaera and Jaehaerys.

If indeed Maelor has been omitted from the show, it’s possible that Blood will present Helaena with a choice between the lives of one of the twins, a boy and a girl, instead of her sons. Regardless of the specifics, it’s bound to be a harrowing and brutal moment. While it has been predicted that Daemon secretly enters King’s Landing in the season premiere, there’s no assurance that the Blood and Cheese incident will occur in that very episode. The precise release date for Season 2 has not been disclosed yet.

House of the Dragoncan be streamed on Max.
