Learn how the Swarmkeeper Ranger’s Gathered Swarm works in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the types of damage and utility options it offers.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is receiving a major update with Patch 8, introducing 12 much-awaited new subclasses to the game. TheSwarmkeeper Rangeris one of these subclasses, which was previously only playable with the assistance of mods. Larian has noted player interest and introduced the Swarmkeeper Ranger to the vanilla game along with several unique subclass abilities.

Swarmkeeper Rangers are known for cultivating bonds with hive-minded spirits, which assist them in combat through the Gathered Swarm subclass feature. Gathered Swarm is the mainstay of Swarmkeeper Rangers and helps them deal additional damage, debuff enemies, and navigate the battlefield with a short-range teleport.
What Is Gathered Swarm in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Gathered Swarm is the core ability of Swarmkeeper Rangers. It becomes available at level 3 and allows you to choose one of three swarm types: Legion of Bees, Cloud of Jellyfish, and Flurry of Moths. Each has a different damage type and utility option. The Swarmkeeper Ranger can change their Gathered Swarm type with every level up.
Gathered Swarm activities once per turn after you attack a target, giving you three options. The first option deals damage, the second provides a utility effect, and the third allows you to teleport. All three swarm options deal +1d6 damage and can teleport you 5m (17ft) away.
The key difference between them is the type of damage they deal, and the utility effects they offer. At level 11, Swarmkeeper Rangers unlock the Mighty Swarm subclass feature, which upgrades all the swarms’ damage to +1d8.
Gathered Swarm’s damage can be further enhanced withPrey’s Scent, a passive subclass feature unlocked by the Swarmkeeper Ranger at level 3. If you attack a target affected by your Hunter’s Mark, Prey’s Scent will add +1d6 damage of the same type as your chosen swarm.

That is, Piercing for Legion of Bees, Lightning for Cloud of Jellyfish, and Psychic for Flurry of Moths. Your final damage dealt can look something like this: weapon damage + 1d6 (Hunter’s Mark) + 1d6/1d8 (Gathered Swarm) + 1d6 (Prey’s Scent).
