Much like how it is in Dungeons and Dragons, dice in Baldur’s Gate 3 are used to determine the outcomes of actions and interactions.
At the heart of every Dungeons and Dragons game are its dice, which determine the outcomes of interactions, combat and other actions. As an adaptation of this table-top fantasy RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3 also integrates dice into most aspects of its gameplay. It also allows you to change the dice and make customizations to your liking.

In this guide, we will talk about the dice mechanic and its possibilities in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is the Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The dice mechanic in Baldur’s Gate 3 functions similarly to its Dungeons and Dragons counterpart. For instance, if you intimidate an NPC to draw certain information out of them, the dice will roll to determine if your intimidation tactic worked. Similarly, it can determine if your attack lands and the extent of the damage it inflicts.
How to Change the Dice
To change the dice, you simply have to wait for the dice roll prompt to pop up. Even a simple action such as picking a lock can work. Once you see the pop-up, search the bottom left corner of the screen for a button with a gear icon. Hover over the icon, and it will read “Customize Dice”.
Click on the icon and a small tab will open up. It will display a variety of dice cosmetics to choose from. Click on the design you like, and it will be applied on the dice.
Dice Designs
While Larian Studios have added the option to customize the dice in Baldur’s Gate 3, the selection at the moment remains fairly limited:
