Christopher Nolan, the celebrated director known for his mind-bending narratives and visually stunning films, has a distinct movie editing style that plays a crucial role in the success of his works.
In the interview with BBC Radio One, when asked about the number of cuts in the film, Nolan said,
“I don’t know whether I should admit this on radio one but we don’t really do an assembly. My editor Jen Lame [Jennifer Lame] actually second film of done with her. She came onto the film after we wrapped because she was busy on wakanda forever so she came on and we started working together with the dailies which is a process I really enjoy. We go back to the beginning, we watch absolutely everything and then we start to put it together and it’s very very complicated film to put together.”
Despite being common in modern editing, jump cuts are rarely seen in Christopher Nolan’s movies. His editing method instead depends on smooth transitions that help the story flow. The audience can have a more immersive viewing experience because of this methodical technique, which prevents them from becoming disoriented by the abrupt editing process.
