Indiana Jonesis known for its cinematic brilliance and the old-school charisma of the actor Harrison Ford. It would be difficult to imagine any other actor playing the role of Indy. However, truth be spoken, the role was initially offered to theFRIENDSfameTom Selleck.
Harrison Fordacknowledged the fact at the Italian premiere of his final Indy film,Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He gave a shoutout to Selleck for passing the role many years ago.
“How I got the job? Tom Selleck had the job, but he also incurred an obligation to do a television series and he was unable to get out of that contract. I became the second choice, and I’m very grateful for Tom. Thank you, Tom, man. If you’re listening, thank you again.”
For the uninitiated, Ford starred inA New Hopein 1977 and got his next big opportunity with 1981’sRaiders of the Lost Ark, which cemented Ford’s status as a leading action man. However, he only got the role because Selleck dropped out from the film due to his contractual obligations to the TV showMagnum P.I.
