Even if the film eluded his grasp, he applauded Margot Robbie’s talent in the film. Thus, the grand pink giant spectacle that captivated the world earlier this year, fell short of winning the heart of the 75-year-old director totally and completely.

John Carpenter Didn’t UnderstandBarbie!
In a conversation with theLos Angeles Times, the legendary Hollywood directorJohn Carpenteropenly expressed his confusion about the movieBarbie. Despite the film’s recent global domination, raking in a staggering billion dollars and arguably playing a role in revitalizing the industry after the pandemic slump, Carpenter admitted he couldn’t fathom all the fuss surrounding it. He said,
“I don’t go out. I haven’t been to a movie in a while, but I see them at my house. I’ll see it there. I watched Barbie. I can’t believe I watched Barbie. It’s just not my generation. I had nothing to do with Barbie dolls.”
He further continued stating,
“I didn’t know who Allan was. I mean, I can sum it up. She says, ‘I don’t have a v-gina,’ and then at the end, ‘I’m going to go to a gynecologist!’ That’s the movie to me. I mean, there’s a patriarchy business in there, but I missed that whole thing. Right over my head.”
The director primarily attributed his struggle to the generation gap between himself and the current youth culture and thus he openly stated that he failed to grasp the core of the movie.

John Carpenter Praised Margot Robbie for HerBarbiePerformance
Despite failing to grasp the core of the movie, the director applauded what stood out for him as an audience member,Margot Robbie. Despite the film disappointing him, he praised the actress who enamored the whole world with her undeniable talent and acting prowess in the pink blockbuster. He said,
“But I think she’s fabulous, Margot Robbie.”
And that is indeed true. The actress, Robbie, brought the dolls associated with almost everybody’s childhood to life successfully. And with that film remains one of the most talked-about topics of the year, with theBarbenheimersurge fueling the fire even more, more so to an unfathomable level. Thus, although Carpenter might disagree with the world regarding his views onBarbie, he does agree that Margot Robbie stole the show.
