The actor himself agrees that he has made a significant contribution to shaping the franchise. During an interview, the actor said,
“If you’d asked me in 2008, 2009, 2010 how I felt about it, I would say that I was the Atlas of the Marvel Universe. I was holding it up well. They should erect a shrine in my honor.”
Indeed, Downey is correct here, and it’s not too much to ask for if we see his contribution to the franchise; he was indeed the backbone of the MCU. However, his contribution did not go unnoticed by the studios, as he was the highest-paid actor among all the Marvel actors.
