One of the greatest directors in the history of modern filmmaking, Christopher Nolan, essentially possesses the most brilliant mind when it comes to directing. His unique eye for imbuing the genres of art and science into motion pictures and making the product a more thrilling and mind-bending experience sounds like a very loaded concept – and it is. But this is where Nolan’s brilliance lies.

Christopher Nolan

The director of films likeInceptionandInterstellarhas found the formula to intertwine all the themes in his heavily-cultured films in a perfect concoction for his audience that simply makes them turn back to these projects time and again instead of being put off by the unnecessarily heavy ideas behind the plots and storylines.

Christopher Nolan Speaks About The Bond Experience

For any filmmaker in the world, the Bond films are as much a coveted notch in their belt to have as it is for the actors who have played or will play 007 in the franchise. This once-in-a-lifetime experience of directing a James Bond movie not only holds a surreal tone to it but is almost an imperceptible thing to hold and consider because of the otherworldly, niche, and overarching genre that it encompasses.

And it was as equally inevitable thatChristopher Nolan, being the extraordinary artist that he is, would be asked about his interest in helming a 007 feature himself. So when asked about it during the promotion of his 2014 film,Interstellar, the director revealed something quite interesting:

Christopher Nolan on the sets of Interstellar

I love James Bond and I’ve talked with the producers over the years, but nothing’s ever worked out. They do a great job—they don’t need me right now, and Sam [Mendes] is an extraordinary talent. I will absolutely be first in line to see the next Bond film as I have been for all of them.

Sam Mendeswas brought on board to directSkyfallwithDaniel Craig. It can be deduced from Nolan’s claims that the director may have gone up against Mendes while competing for the directorial chair for the 2012 project. The film, a first of its kind, dived into the past and the mysteriously dark history of the spy. Since its release,Skyfallremains one of the highest-grossing and most critically acclaimed Bond films of all time, managing to catapult Craig’s authority over the character even more so than when he revolutionized the franchise by bringing it out of the cave of misogyny which 007 was cooped up within, since his conception in the 60s.

A Christopher Nolan Directed James Bond Film?

The thought of Christopher Nolan actively seeking out the position of directing a Bond film is as riveting as it is frazzling. The minds of the audience are immediately haunted by variations of scenarios that range from improbability to impossibility when the two subjects: Nolan and Bond are put together in one sentence. And there is more than one reason for it.

Will the director make the infamous super spy, born from Ian Fleming’s Cold War era adventures, a pawn in an interdimensional space race? Or will Christopher Nolan reinvent the Bond franchise in a manner that will forever change the concept of spy thriller espionage films, ushering in the dawn of a new era as far as filmmaking is concerned, just as he did with his dazzling space odysseys and the macabreDark Knighttrilogy? The answer, it seems, will remain a subject of speculation for now.
