It didn’t feel like a machine, an engine of commerce for the studio. As the genre becomes so successful, those pressures become greater and greater. It was the right time.”

Heath Ledger, who played Joker in the movie, passed away 6 months before the release of the movie. Ledger posthumously won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the movie.
