Titanicis surely one of the life-changing movies for the ones associated with it. But looks like Kate Winslet also has some bad experiences attached to the James Cameron classic. It’s nothing new as even Leonardo DiCaprio had his share of problems after the success ofTitanic.Winslet has opened up in various interviews about how she wanted some support to manage the extravagant popularity gained from the 1997 movie.
Titanicis considered one of the greatest movies of all time. The movie on the historical ship disaster not only earned an astronomical $2.2 billion but also won 11 Academy Awards out of 14. But the stars faced some problems handling this newfound popularity. While DiCaprio was not happy with his “pretty boy” image created by the movie, Kate Winslet had different issues.

Kate Winslet was not happy with her post-Titanicpopularity
The performances by Leonardo DiCaprio andKate Winsletas Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater were highly applauded by everyone and it catapulted them to another level of stardom.
But sadly, theSense and Sensibilitystar went through a traumatic period after she felt that the popularity was too much to handle. According to a report by BBC News, Winslet claimed that it was very problematic for her to face the sudden stardom.
“It isn’t easy going through that level of exposure so quickly. What I do wish is that I had had more support going through those early days. It’s genuinely difficult. I was living in my lovely little two-bedroom flat in north London… and suddenly I couldn’t just walk down the street and buy a pint of milk.”

Kate Winslet added that she heartily wanted someone by her side who would have already informed her of the aftermath of being a celebrity.
“With things changing overnight, I wish I had known people who could have said ‘this is what’s going to happen’. I wish I’d known more people who had actually gone through that. It’s a shocker, that one. It’s like having 55 babies naturally in quick succession.”
The mother to three also revealed that she almost decided to leave the industry after not being happy with the fame. But fortunately, the actress took a different take and began to work on small-scale projects such asIrisandQuills.

Kate Winslet’s woes didn’t end there with her increased popularity but continued further when she was also repeatedly criticized by the media. As Deadline reported, theHeavenly Creaturesactress claimed that the British media was very harsh with her and scrutinized her personally.
“I went into self-protective mode right away. It was like night and day from one day to the next. I was subject to a lot of personal physical scrutiny, I was criticized a lot and the British press were quite unkind to me.”
She further added that she never thought that being famous would bring her to this kind of circumstance.
“I felt bullied if I’m honest. I remember thinking, ‘this is horrible and I hope it passes’ – it did definitely pass but it made me realize that, if that’s what being famous was, I was not ready to be famous, definitely not.”
