Recalling the first time he laid eyes on his future wife, Michael Caine mentioned how he was watching TV back in the early 70s, with his friend, and sawRidley Scott‘s ad for Maxwell House coffee. That’s where he saw his soulmate Shakira Baksh dancing in the background. Watching her perform, Caine was simply transfixed.
“My heart started pounding and my palms became sweaty…This girl is amazing. I want to meet her.”
After watching the commercial Caine went to meet Shakira Baksh for the first time. And it all became possible when the actor fortunately ran into a friend of his, who worked for the commercial company. Arranging a meeting with his future wife, Michael Caine eventually managed to get Baksh’s phone number, as well.

Watching the mystery woman for the first time on television in Ridley Scott’s coffee commercial, Michael Caine was madly in love with her. Thus, he arranged for her phone number and called her 11 times before she finally agreed to meet. Speaking withRadioTimes, the Oscar-winning actor thus narrated how he fell in love instantly but took his wife a couple of hours to be mesmerized by him.
“I fell in love with her in about 8 minutes and it took her 2 hours to love me back.”
Further, after their marriage Shakira Caine (née Baksh) sat for an interview withPeople (viaHollywood Life)in 1976 to discuss what exactly made her fall in love withMichael Caine. To which she simply mentioned, “he was everything I didn’t expect,”.
“I had just seen him in Get Carter and he seemed so aggressive and ruthless. Instead, I found him charming and very gentle, someone whom I’d like to spend part of my life with. Michael was at that time still very much against marriage.”
