The suit that a superhero wears is one of the most important aspects of their identity as a character. If done right, it can turn even the weakest characters into some of the most memorable. This is why Lilly was quite meticulous about what her character will wear in the sequel to the firstAnt-Manmovie,Ant-Man and the Wasp.

She was not too happy with the fact that the suit made her bottom look flat. She added that though it looked beautiful on its own when on a hanger, it did not look quite right when she wore it. She believed that emphasis on her curves was quite important for the character of Hope Van Dyne.

Evangeline Lilly Talks About Her Superhero Costume Design for 2018’sAnt-Man and the Wasp

Evangeline Lilly went on to talk about the vision that they had for Hope’s superhero suit. She said that they wanted to capture the essence that Hope has in the comics and try to base it off that while trying to avoid certain mistakes. They wanted the costume to feel feminine as that was quite a big visual characteristic of her character.

“I really wanted to honor the original comics. The wasp is uber-feminine. Possibly one of the most feminine of all the superheroes in that world. She was a fashion designer, she changed her costume with her mood. She was very feminine but she was also very sexualized as they all are.”she went on“I wanted to maintain the uber feminity while eliminating the sexualization.”

With this, they also did not overly sexualize her and then disguise it as femininity. They wanted to avoid objectifying the character like was in the comics and instead focus on practicality and style. They focused on a simpler design, with the only complicated this being a corset, which was added to add more grace to the look
