Kawaki’s obsession with being a part of Naruto’s family has led him to commit tragic deeds in Masashi Kishimoto’sBorutoseries. Originally raised by Kara to be the vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki, the genin developed a hatred towards the Otsutsuki members, including Boruto. This made him kill his adoptive brother while also sealing his father and mother to protect them from future danger.

Kawaki seals Naruto in Boruto

Although ‘seven’ is considered to be lucky, Kawaki’s extreme decision to seal Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki is seen inChapter 77.He cloaked his chakra to stealthily approach his parents before opening a dimension that swallowed them in the Daikokuten. The Seventh Hokage is still locked inside that realm even though the next saga,Two Blue Vortex, has begun.

Kawaki not only took Naruto’s liberty but also robbed him of an important aspect of fatherhood thatBorutofans have realized most recently.

Naruto & Hinata Lost The Chance To See Their Children Grow Up inBoruto

Kawaki’s decision to seal Naruto Uzumaki was purely based on fear stemming from the well-being of his adoptive father. Naruto lost a significant portion of his powers when he lost Kurama inChapter 55after activating Baryon Mode. Suspecting that the Hokage would become a target for many other ninjas and Otsutsukis, he decided to protect the Uzumaki family for years.

While time is not a concept in theDaikokuten, Naruto and Hinata have been sealed for four human years in the Borutoverse. This can be concluded based on the fact that they were taken in by Kawaki before the four-year time skip that follows after the conclusion of theNext Generationsmanga. Boruto, who was last seen by Naruto when he was 12 years old, is now in his teenage.

Thus, Kawaki not only stole Naruto and Hinata’s freedom but also prevented them from seeing their children grow into responsible adults. The training that Boruto received from Sasuke during the time skip has made him on par with Code and not being a part of the most prestigious years of his son’s life or his training routine be hurtful to sensei Uzumaki.

Himawari’s case is worse. Prior to the time skip, the second child of Naruto was studying in the Academy and thought to be somewhere around the age of 9 to 10. She is now aged 14 and lacks the chakra training Boruto had received from his father although she did start training at an early age to be better than her brother.

Kawaki Sealing A Weakened Naruto Was The Right Call For The Narrative

Even though many fans were disappointed by Kishimoto’s decision to write off Naruto, it was the right call for the development of the narrative. The fan-favorite Hokage overshadowed his son throughout the beginning of the series although the entire story is about Boruto’s journey as a ninja.

Kawaki eliminating Naruto from action now cements Boruto as the main protagonist of the series. Moreover, he may have surpassed his father’s powers, now that he has been branded with the Karma by Momoshiki while also honing his skills by training with Sasuke Uchiha.

Kawaki is easily the most misunderstood character in Boruto. I honestly feel for him as he loves Boruto like a brother but having momo inside of him make things complicated for both konoha and Naruto. Many questions stemming from the time skip such as Sasuke’s whereabouts after being attacked by Pain and Naruto Uzumaki being ‘alive’ are yet to be answered. However, judging by the fan appeal of both characters, it can be assumed that the two fathers will jump into action during critical points in Boruto and Sarada’s stories.

Fans believe that Naruto has grown stronger during his time being locked in a timeless dimension. Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha is in hiding and training to reclaim the Rinnegan ability which he lost during the fight against Isshiki Otsutsuki.
