Interestingly, Nolan envisioned aJames Bondfilm that took the character back to the post-World War II era when Ian Fleming originally wrote the character. Christopher Nolan revealed to Playboy magazine back in 2017 that he had maintained communication with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Nolan shared his excitement and love for the character, revealing that he was always eager to see the different interpretations of the character. Nolan toldPlayboy:
“I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it.”
More recently, theInsomniadirector admitted that helming aJames Bondmovie would be an“amazing privilege”. He was appearing on theHappy Sad Confused podcastwith Josh Horowitz when he revealed that he would take on the film only if it came as a“full package”. The director was hinting at having complete creative freedom over the project. Nolan shared withJosh Horowitz:
“You wouldn’t want to take on a film not fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything, it’s a full package. You’d have to be really needed, you’d have to be really wanted in terms of bringing the totality of what you bring to a character.”
As of now, theJames Bondproducers have yet to announce the lead actor and director for the film that marks the next chapter in the spy thriller franchise.Aaron Taylor-Johnsonis a front-runner for the lead role, with some sources suggesting that he passed a screen test.
