Octopath Traveler 2is coming to PC and Xbox consoles with an early 2024 release window. This announcement was a major highlight during theTokyo Game Show 2023recently.
The popular JRPG has updated 2D pixel-based visuals with a hint of 3D design that makes the franchise feel so special. The game can be played on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
While there’s no exact date for the Xbox release, fans can breathe a sigh of relief even at this simple announcement. After all, the initialOctopath Travelerwasn’t released on Xbox One until its third year of worldwide presence.
Octopath Traveler 2 – Setting, Gameplay, and New Features
The sequel builds on the foundation and strengths ofOctopath Travelerwith familiar features and welcomes new upgrades.
There are eight distinct storylines following the background of different playable characters. As the narrative progresses, these characters will interlink at essential points in the game.

The story structure may feel familiar, but the new dynamics and world building bring adequate novelty to the sequel. The game takes place in the world of Solistia, wrapped in the blanket of Medieval and 19th-century themes.
A key aspect that separates the sequel from the first game is the addition of Advanced Jobs. These include Conjurer, Inventor, Arcanist, and Armsmaster. It has also been revealed that players can now use inventions that result from these jobs on the battlefield.
Octopath Traveler 2 Might Cater to a Larger Fanbase, Thanks to Game Pass
According toSquare Enix, the originalOctopath Travelersold more than four million units. It’s not clear exactly how well the sequel has performed so far, but we do know that June 2024 reports saw around 1 million copies sold.
And these numbers are certainly going to increase with the game coming to new platforms.

On PC, the game was met with “overwhelmingly positive” reviews onSteam, making it one of the most recommended games for the online store.
