Arnold Schwarzenegger is perhaps, one of the most well-recognized and respected actors in Hollywood. He has made a name for himself not only as a passionate bodybuilder and politician but also, perhaps most famously, as an actor, showcasing his craft in massively successful projects likeFubar, Predator, Conan the Barbarian, andTrue Lies. Most famously, however, the actor is known for his work in the widely adored James Cameron’s science-fiction movie series,The Terminatorfranchise.

Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator

Arnold Schwarzenegger Thought thatThe TerminatorWas Just Another Bad Film

It can be saidArnold Schwarzeneggerowes his career to James Cameron, best known forTitanicand theAvatarfranchise, and the fact that the director allowed the actor a medium to showcase his acting capabilities when he was previously only known as a bodybuilder who appeared in films. Despite this, however, it has been revealed by a source who was close to Schwarzenegger that the actor was initially not all too fond of working onThe Terminator.

“As we sat there talking he picked up the Conan sword, which weighed a ton, and went through the moves he’d practiced. Then he grabbed a pair of shoes and I said: ‘What are those for?’. He said: ‘Oh, some s*** movie I’m doing, take a couple of weeks.’ It was ‘The Terminator.’ That was the movie that made Arnold. For him it was just some crap film.”stated the source.

Rick Wayne, a fellow bodybuilder, revealed that before knowing the true genius of this film and the impact it would have on his life, Schwarzenegger once told him that he was taking part in some ‘s***’ movie and that he would be done in a few weeks. The conversation took place while the actor was working on his sword skills for the film he was filming at the time,Conan The Destroyer.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Was Proven Wrong AboutThe Terminator

While Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comments on this may seem odd, it is important to keep in mind that though the concept ofThe Terminatorwas very unique, it was quite out there, with there being a time-traveling robot killing machine, and could even be considered weird by the standards of the films that were being released around the same time. On top of this, James Cameron was not the big-name director that he is now, with this being one of his first big projects as a young newcomer making a low-budget film with an impeccable vision.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has later gone on to say that his views on the film drastically changed very quickly, stated that he was completely amazed by an early cut of the film’s first 20 minutes, stating that he believed that the film would be much bigger than anyone involved could have anticipated, something the actor was very right about.
