Alan Wake sacrificed himself in the original game so that the Dark Presence does not spread and he has been trapped in the Dark Place since then. The world has the power to turn anything fiction into reality and Alan Wake has been trapped there for 13 years and trying to write his way out but he hasn’t been successful yet.

When asked in theinterviewabout how long has it been since Alan Wake was seen in Remedy Connected Universe’s Control expansion. Remedy’s Sam Lake stated that the Remedy Connected Universe is in the present time and the universe is advancing in real-time. Lake also mentioned thatAlan Wake 2is set around 81st Deerfest, which was shown in the trailer and takes place in September.

Players will see a different side of Alan Wake in Alan Wake 2

Lake stated that players will find Alan Wake struggling with the timeline and how long he has spent in the Dark Place as time works differently in that world and it might be subjective to Alan Wake’s experience. He also stated that although it has been 13 years, it will be much more than that for him. Lake said,

I would say that for him it feels like more than 13 years. Even longer in the middle.

Sam Lake also shared his insights on how Alan Wake has changed in the upcoming game and since he’s been in the Dark Place for 13 years, how that affected him. Lake stated that they wanted to show a normal flawed person in the first game and not a perfect guy who would be likable by everyone and all would want to play as them.

He added that Alan Wake’s stories from the beginning to the first game’s cliffhanger ending have worked great for the game with all the drama surrounding his sacrifice. He said that inAlan Wake 2players will find a different Alan with distinct and dark sides of him that weren’t seen in the first game. Sam Lake stated,

We will find new sides of him and we’ll be peeling away more layers of him and getting kind of to the darkness also, the pain points of the character.

Lake also spoke about howAlan Wake 2will be different than the first game. He stated that when they were working on Alan Wake, they did not consider it as an actual horror game but an action-adventure title. Lake added that they have tried to find a perfect balance of elements in both the games and the second game was set to be a true horror title since its inception.

He also mentioned that the the storyline of the first game makes it a proper horror game and they went along with that idea. He added that with that horror element, they got more intense fights and a scary atmosphere and not just combat and constant fights that mostly feel repetitive.

He added that a mysterious game excites the players andAlan Wake 2is filled with build-up and ambition. He said that they wanted the game to be a deep and dense mystery and a game that would ignite questions in players as they try to find out what’s real and what’s fiction, but the question is will it hit all the points that Sam Lake wants?
