While his struggling years are no secret in the industry, a recent memoir written by Nick de Semlyen throws light on a specific time when he was in his struggling phase. At the time, he scared Scarlett Johansson’s favorite director, Woody Allen to bag a role in the latter’s directorial.

In Nick de Semlyen’s memoir,he opened up about a time when actor, Sylvester Stallone auditioned to play the role of a subway mugger in Woody Allen’s 1971 film,Bananas. Initially, he was unable to impress the director who rejected the star with the reason stating that he was not intimidating enough to make an impact.

However, the former had no other option but to change his mind which he did by scaring him. The author wrote in his book,
“Stallone and his friend Johnny, another aspiring actor, rubbed soot on their faces, ran Vaseline through their hair, and returned, scaring Allen into giving them parts.”

Despite being a popular director, Allen’s stardom majorly subsided when s-xual abuse accusations surfaced. However,Scarlett Johanssonsupported the filmmaker despite that only to change her stance later on.
As for Stallone, he eventually got the part with the actor getting on track to grab on the side or extra characters in several films before getting his big break with theRockyseries.

Before he tried his hands in the entertainment industry, he did some quite odd jobs for his survival.
After stepping into New York in 1969 to pursue acting, it was not easy. He had a rough start with the actor facing some difficult times in his life. He once slept on a bus station bench for almost two weeks. By the next year, he was earning $1.12 an hour cleaning up lion dung at the Central Park Zoo.
It was not probably the worst part as the lions urinated on him quite a few times which resulted in burning his eyes due to small acrid residual. It left a life-long impression on the star who once shared,
“Not too many people ever have the thrill of seeing lions taking giant leaks.”
However, things were turning to better condition when he started getting acting gigs with a sizable budget. It went on until he gained his breakthrough in 1976 by starring as Rocky Balboa in the first film of theRockyseries. It not only gave him the fame he once wanted but the output of his struggling period that eventually came to an end.
