Gwendoline Christieis known for her versatile performances following her breakthrough inGame of Thrones.Whether it’s portraying the King of Hell inThe Sandmanor a human female stormtrooper captain of the First Order inStar Wars,she has received immense praise for most of her performances.
During an interview withPOPSUGAR Entertainment, the actress talked about starring as one of the supporting antagonists ofStar Wars. She stated how progressive her character in the film is, as she reacted to a comment that stated that Captain Phasma’s character’s armor does not appear feminine despite being a female stormtrooper.
“We relate to Captain Phasma, not through that random group of elements that causes us to look a certain way in flesh. We relate to her due to her actions and her character, and that I think is truly modern, and that’s what really excites me about this film.”
The actress shared that she is glad to portray a character that is defined by her actions rather than her appearance. She also shared her excitement about playing such a character and being part of a film that has diversity in the casting.

Did Captain Phasma Survive in The Last Jedi?
Gwendoline Christie talked about how her character inStar Warsmight have survived the events ofStar Wars: The Last Jedi. In the movie, her character is seen falling into the flames after a combat with John Boyega’s Finn. However, the actress claimed that Captain Phasma could still be alive, stating that she is seen walking through the fire in the same film.
“Well, I think, bearing in mind, we saw in the same film Phasma walk through fire… Clearly, Phasma’s no fool. And that suit is going to be flame resistant,”she said atStar WarsCelebration 2023 viaCBR. The actress shared that she has better hopes for her character’s future, stating that her“suit of armor is like a cockroach shell”and that she can even survive a“nuclear attack.”
