As DC Films moves ever so close to the dusk of the current DCEU regime, there are a lot of varying thoughts and emotions toward it. Thus, the upcomingThe Flash,which will be the last film in the franchise before James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reboot, finds itself amidst a lot of anticipation to see whether it goes out in a blaze of glory or burn down and be forgotten.
Whatever the case may be, for the time being, the trailer of the upcoming film has gotten the fans riled up as it brings so much of the unexpected right in front of our eyes, one of them being the return of the feared General Zod. While he might be making a comeback in the film about the red speedster, it wouldn’t have been possible if Zack Snyder hadn’t been so understanding.
Michael Shannon Might Not Have Returned InThe FlashIf Not For Zack Snyder!
While many had their doubts and suspicions about how the film would fair in the cinemas, the trailer for the upcoming The Flash has shoved away most of those sentiments through the sheer amount of surprises that were withheld from the audience earlier. Perhaps the most shocking revelation from the trailer was the return ofMichael Shannonas General Zod after he died in 2013’sMan Of Steel. But Shannon reprising his role as the villain from Krypton was only made possible throughZack Snyder‘s blessing.
During an interview on theBingeworthypodcast viaThe Playlist,Shannon talked about all the different films he was involved in recently and in the past, which also included the upcoming film withEzra Miller. Here, while talking about everything from the movie,The Shape of Waterstar also opened up about how he felt wrong to reprise the role of General Zod without the involvement of Snyder, who brought the character to life.
Thus, after talking with Andy Muschietti, the director of the film, he talked with theWatchmendirector to seek his goodwill to reprise his role, which Snyder gave without a second thought. Shannon said:
“But I talked to Andy [Muschietti] about it, and I liked Andy, and I said, ‘Andy, look – I just want to get Zack’s blessing on this because it just doesn’t feel right without that.’ And Zack, to his credit, was very understanding. He gave me his blessing, and I went to do it. I loved Andy, too. I loved working with Andy. They’re both super creative guys. Andy’s an amazing artist. He would just make these drawings when I was sitting there talking to him. I’d look over and say, ‘Hey, can I keep that?’ and he’d go, ‘Sure!’ and sign it and give it to me.”
Thus, after honoring the legacy of Snyder, Shannon returned to reprise his role, which is now one of the highlights of the film that fans are waiting to witness.
What To Expect FromThe Flash?
While the film may have been hiding Zod up its sleeve, it wasn’t the only surprise waiting for the fans. Along with the return of the villain, we will also witness the return of Michael Keaton as the OG Batman during the course of the film. Along with that, the character of Kara Zor-El, a.k.a Supergirl will also be brought to the forefront, while the main attraction will be the Flashpoint storyline that the movie will follow. Thus, there’s a lot to get excited about in the upcoming film.
