Telltale Games has become the latest gaming studio to join the unwanted list of companies that have laid off their employees this year. EA parted with around 1,000 of their employees during March this year, while Unity laid off 600 employees back in May this year. The trend has continued to Q4 this year with the recent layoffs at Blizzard, Naughty Dog, and Epic Games.

One of the impacted employees shed some light on the layoffs while also hoping for the studio to succeed.

Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us 2 Unaffected By Layoffs, Scheduled For 2024

Back in March this year, Telltale Games updated its fans aboutThe Wolf Among Us 2being delayed to 2024. Work on the sequel started in 2020, and Telltale Games informed of requiring more time to work on the sequel. While the layoffs at Telltale Games are unfortunate, it seems the upcoming game is not impacted and will have a release next year as planned.

“All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time.”

Former Employee Sheds Light on Telltale Games Layoffs, Calls for Unionization

Following the layoffs at Telltale Games which has reportedly seen several employees being let go, the studio did not exactly how many of its employees were affected. One of those employees by the name Jonah Huang has come forward to share their thoughts on the unfortunate event and a message to the others affected.

This is a sore subject, but I feel it necessary to add to the gaming layoff news: Telltale laid most of us off early September. Status of TWAU2, I can’t say (NDA).

Now, I focus on what matters to me—my own game, and the following words:

Games industry, we must UNIONIZE.

— jjonahjonahson (@jjonahjonahson)July 12, 2025

Huang stressed in his posts that while he wishes the best for the studio and for the upcoming title,The Wolf Among Us 2, he also shared his opinion that employees must “UNIONIZE”. Huang called upon workers in the gaming industry to register with the RPG-IATSE, Rights & Protections for Gameworkers, a new union by the IATSE group, or The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

Huang also mentioned that he had re-joined Telltale Games to work onThe Wolf Among Us 2stating his excitement being a fan of the series. He mentioned the team working on the sequel was quite a small team and that the studio did not clarify any reason behind the layoffs, which cut short his time at Telltale Games along with others.

Additional non-contract breaking details: I originally re-joined Telltale because I’ve always wanted to work on TWAU2 (as a fan of the original). Our team was very small and I was genuinely excited for the game. Telltale has yet to publicize any of what has happened.

Huang concluded his post by stating that Telltale Games did indeed provide a good offer as he was let go, and for that reason, he wasn’t looking to reveal anything that would affect the studio. While speaking only about things that weren’t included in the NDA signed before his departure, Huang wished the studio and the developers working on the upcomingThe Wolf Among Us 2the very best.

The fact that Huang mentioned a fair severance package should be considered fairly good news, as not everyone ended up being that lucky. BioWare is being sued by seven of the 50 employees the company recently laid off after having received a very poor offer and for poor treatment by BioWare.

Having an average of 14 years of service among those seven employees, they were reportedly let go with a poor severance and were forced to sign an NDA as well. Naughty Dog also laid off 25 of their employees without any severance package, although they are retained for the month of October beyond which they will be asked to leave.

SAG-AFTRA had also reached out to the gaming corporations asking them for assurance of job. The SAG-AFTRA team also demanded the corporations to “fairly compensate” the performers, even as the members voted to go on a strike against the gaming corporations.
