Mortal Kombat 1came out in September 2023. The game is reasonably good and received mostly favorable reviews from critics. The game’s meta score is generally favorable and is clocked at 83 at the time of writing this article. The game also secured to title of Best Multiplayer Game at Golden Joystick Awards 2023. This may not be the last laurel that the game brings home as it is also nominated in the Best Fighting Game Category at The Game Awards 2023.
The game was also recentlyreview-bombeddue to its online services being unavailable in Russia. The game’s port on the Nintendo Switch alsoreceived a lot of criticismfrom fans due to numerous reasons.
In addition to this, the game also has problematic elements like numerous microtransactions, a problem that has only increased in modern games. Relating to microtransactions present in the game, currently, there is a new exploit that is allowing players to skip paying for microtransactions in the title.
How Does Turning Back the Clock Help Mortal Kombat 1 Players in Accessing Previously Unavailable Skins?
Before sharing the exploit or workaround that the players are resorting to due to the loathed microtransactions plaguing the title, it is important to establish some background.Mortal Kombat 1‘s formula for providing flashy new content to its players takes the shape of Seasons in the game. For reference, the game’s prologue season at the time of launch had a timespan of 48 days.
Mortal Kombat 1also has an in-game marketplace where players can buy items using in-game currencies: Dragon Kredits and Seasonal Kredits. Dragon Kredits are awarded as one progresses through a playable fighter’s Mastery Rank within the game. A more direct way of to get your hands on Dragon Kredits in the game is by spending real money on your preferred platform’s store. Seasonal Kredits, on the other hand, work differently and can be gained through the course of your playthrough.
InKombat Kast 4,a live stream run by NetherRealm studios which is with regards to the latestMortal Kombatcontent. Derek Kirtzic, Lead Systems Designer at NetherRealm studios said in a video that if one misses content from a season, they would have to wait for the season’s return.
This, however, seems to be done away with as NetherRealm has worsened the already deplorable presence of microtransactions in the game. Players are now trying to get past the need for such microtransactions required to purchase cosmetic materials for characters from already-concluded seasons. This is being done by rewinding the date on their respective gaming machine. And somewhat surprisingly this exploit or cheat is surprisingly working as revealed by gamers.
This was revealed in several social media posts on Twitter, Reddit, and other platforms. In the posts, we see players sharing the workaround with fellowMortal Kombat 1players. The cheat works by changing the date of the console before June 18, 2025, and then purchasing the skin. Doing so doesn’t require Dragon Kredits or spending any real currency on the game.

While this works as proven in the demonstration video attached above, shared by Twitter user iScream (@iScreamFGC). We do not advise taking these measures as doing so and using this exploit may have consequences imposed by the game. While this isn’t a strictly unlawful activity like engaging in Piracy or cheating in online multiplayer. It is discouraged so that users do not face any problems with their platform’s multiplayer service accounts in the future. The worst-case scenario is a ban issued against the user.
There were also other videos surfacing online of the exploit supposedly working for other platforms like Nintendo Switch as reported onReddit.Microtransactions have become rife in most games nowadays. Gone are the times when one could get the entire package containing all of the game’s content in one go. The idea of post-launch content was first rolled out with DLC which still makes sense since it provides new content more often than not.
Then there are companies like EA Sports with franchises likeEAFC 24in which one can buy packs to make the grind easier. WhileMortal Kombat 1‘s cosmetics won’t make you win more matches in multiplayer as opposed to FC points inEAFC. All of this could have been avoided if the skins and cosmetic content could have been unlocked the standard way, by playing the game.
Unfortunately, the way game releases are going currently, we most likely will have Microtransactions in the game akin toMortal Kombat 1.Mortal Kombat 1is now out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
