Tom Blyth recently joinedThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he was asked to talk about his acting career and life while promotingThe Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. However, that interview led to an interesting revelation as Tom Blyth revealed he portrayed the role of Toby Belch inTwelfth Nightand called the character ‘largely endowed’ while Colbert called him fat, which ended up making Blyth panic as he was talking about the role.

”I love the old Roman plays. Julius Ceaser, one of Brutus, one of those parts would be cool. In drama school, they had me play Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, which if anyone knows is like the clownish, like largely endowed character, he is just like a big man. That is a very different thing. When I played him, he was largely endowed, can you edit that out?”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesis a prequel toThe Hunger Gamesand released earlier this month to decent critical reception. As noted, it stars Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. There is no doubt that Blyth impressed many with his performance as Snow.

While speaking toPolygon, Director Francis Lawrence stated that the filmmakers were looking for fresh faces when it came to the lead roles. Lawrence then admitted that he was simply blown away and caught off guard byTom Blyth’sperformance as Coriolanus Snow.

“Part of it is physical,” he admits. “He has those great blue eyes— [you] could see in his face,Okay, I could buy that maybe 65 years later, he could turn into Donald Sutherland.

Telling a story about a young man’s descent into darkness, you have to have somebody that can earn the audience’s empathy, but then believably also descend into that darkness,” Lawrence says. “[Blyth] is really, really good. This sort of charisma continued to astound me. His sense of control in his performance andnuance also astounded me. That really caught me off guard and surprised me in a fantastic way.”

Tom Blyth definitely remains one of the most sought-after actors right now thanks to what he has been able to accomplish so far in his career at such a young age. Only time will tell how much he will prosper.
