For more than a century, several filmmakers have tried to leave their mark on the film industry, but Martin Scorsese is one of the few names that have actually been able to do so with such a huge impact.

Being one of the most experienced people in the world when it comes to movies, while there are many things that the director likes in the new landscape of Hollywood, there’s one thing that he seems to despise in the industry today, and it happens to be the MCU.
Martin Scorsese Calls The MCU Manufactured Cinema
For more than a decade and a half at this point, the MCU has been the dominating force in Hollywood and the entirety of the film business in general, and the impact that it is having on the industry can be witnessed in real-time. While most may love this new revolution that cinema is currently going through, there are people like legendary filmmakerMartin Scorsesewho don’t see eye to eye with this current change in the filmmaking landscape.
In a recently published article byGQ, theTaxi Driverdirector opened up about the changes that he has been witnessing in cinema, and that big-budget blockbusters have taken over the industry, which has led to the films becoming more aligned with the expression of giant corporations that only see big dollar signs and ignore the artistic integrity of a director with his film. He says that the biggest reason for this shift is none other than Marvel Studios with the MCU that has brought this change. He said:
“No, I don’t want to say it. But what I mean is that, it’s manufactured content. It’s almost like AI making a film. And that doesn’t mean that you don’t have incredible directors and special effects people doing beautiful artwork. But what does it mean? What do these films – what will it give you? Aside from a kind of consummation of something and then eliminating it from your mind, your whole body, you know? So what is it giving you?”
Therefore, taking the essence out of cinema is the biggest problem that Scorsese has with the franchise-obsessed film industry of today.
Who Are The Others That Agree With Scorsese?
Scorsese may be one of the biggest critics of the new route that cinema has turned to in recent years with multi-billion dollar franchises popping up on both small and big screen entertainment scenes. he’s not the only one in the industry. Another legendary director, none other than Quentin Tarantino, also thinks that this is something that is hurting the meaning of cinema.
In the past, when theKillers of The Flower Moondirector called the MCU nothing but an amusement park experience, Tarantino came to his support, saying that this is the sad reality of the industry that they are in today.
