J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potterfranchise is one of the most popular universes. The movies earned over $7 Billion at the Box Office and still continue to be one of the most-watched on OTT platforms. As the years pass by, its fan size keeps expanding with both young and old getting emotionally hooked on it. Beyond the screens, the franchise has been doing more than well with its merchandise and theme parks at Warner Bros. Studios. It has also built the career of several actors such as Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliff. Though it’s been a decade since the lastHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallowscame out, the euphoria surrounding the franchise still sparks.

Building on this success, J.K. Rowling continued with her Wizarding World by writingthe Cursed Child, set up 19 years after Voldemort’s death. The story features Harry, Draco Malfoy, Ron and Hermione’s kids and also brings back the key characters.

The latest speculations state that the studio is planning to revisit the story in the form of a reboot series. But it’s not far away when the production adapts Cursed Child into a movie as well. Either way, Warner Bros. is determined to cash on this successful franchise and a movie/ series is inevitable. So which one would be a better course of action?

Movie or Reboot Series?

If you ask us, a reboot would be the best for the iconic universe. One can’t complain about how amazingly and meticulously the movie had adapted the books. From the productions to the set, details, and cast performance, everything was top-notch and couldn’t have been better. However, the biggest challenge while translating books into films is the limited time. Despite being a faithful adaptation, the directors couldn’t cover everything. This ended up leaving some of the key moments and characters from the books that Potterheads were looking forward to watching. Some instances are, Hermione’s S.P.E.W. and how it fought for the elves’ rights, Dobby’s contribution, the story behind the Diadem, the Gaunts, Peeves the Poltergeist, Hepzibah Smith, and Fred’s devastating death.

Creatinga series wouldallow the director to include every key chapter and be more faithful. On the other hand, going for a ninth film would require the original actors to come on board. But the majority of the Harry Potter cast members have moved on in their careers and don’t look forward to a reunion. It took a lot of daring roles for Daniel Radcliff to break away from typecasting. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint also have busy schedules and different acting choices. Moreover, the play for Cursed Child couldn’t create the same magic as its predecessor, leaving the audience kind of disappointed. It deviated from the book and painted the characters in the wrong light.

Clearly, a reboot offers a fresh chance to start over and include all critical points that the movies missed. It would also ensure that a single theme is followed, unlike the films whose tone changed with every part.
