Xbox confirms controller shortage amid “supply disruptions”
Following concerns of Xbox controller shortages in certain territories, Microsoft has confirmed the accessories are indeed undergoing supply constraint issues.
Current-gen consoles have been in short supply since the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hit store shelves in November 2020.
The global pandemic’s impact onsemiconductor demand sparked the hardware troubles, which have eased up in some respects but show no clear sign of coming to a halt.
As far as the gaming industry is concerned, these particular setbacks have predominantly affected home and handheld console production. However, Xbox users in regions such as the UK, Australia, and Germany recently began finding it difficult to get their hands on new controllers.
The Xbox controller shortage is impacting several territories
In response to an inquiry fromVGC, a spokesperson for Microsoft acknowledged that customers are having a hard time finding Xbox Wireless controllers.
The Microsoft representative stated the following: “We know it may be hard finding Xbox Wireless Controllers right now due to supply disruptions. We’re working as fast as possible with our manufacturing and retail partners to improve this. Please check with your local retailer for availability.”
Presently, European customers looking to purchase a new Xbox controller at Argos, Currys, GAME, and the Microsoft Store continue to come face-to-face with stock shortages.
Even listings onAmazon UKaren’t yielding much in the way of good news.
Some retailers in the United States seem to have a better hold on supply for the much-coveted accessory.Best Buy, for example, has the standard Xbox controller and several variant colors in stock.
Meanwhile,GameStop’ssupply mostly consists of pre-owned controllers and select colors of the unopened variety. At the time of writing, there’s no word on how long the Xbox controller storage will persist.
